Health Careers Shadow Day

Champlain Valley Area Health Education Center, in partnership with Fletcher Allen Health Care, Northwestern Medical Center, and Porter Medical Center, offers HEALTH CAREERS EXPLORATION SHADOW DAY, an opportunity to explore health careers through a day of health career related presentations and workshops as well as a 2-3 hour job shadow with a health care professional.

This program is for area high school students (residents of Addison, Chittenden, Franklin or Grand Isle counties), grades 9 - 12, who:

• Enjoy problem-solving, using the newest technologies or relating to people;
  
• Are concerned about todays’s health issues;
  
• Would like to talk with students studying health professions at local Vermont colleges;
  
• Want to explore the diversity of health careers;
  
• Are interested in a career in a health care field.

The goals of the HEALTH CAREERS EXPLORATION SHADOW DAY program are to:

• Develop comfort in a health care environment;
  
• Provide opportunities to shadow health care professionals in their work setting;
  
• Explore and strengthen skills and resources for health career development.

HEALTH CAREERS EXPLORATION SHADOW DAY is a FREE program and is offered at Fletcher Allen Health Care, Northwestern Medical Center, and Porter Medical Center during the school year. Visit our website in the coming months for further information on how to apply for the program.

To be admitted to the HEALTH CAREERS EXPLORATION SHADOW DAY program, students must submit an application and a recommendation. Program staff at Champlain Valley Area Health Education Center will review the applications and choose the students best suited for the program.
