What is a cardiovascular technologist?

A cardiovascular technologist assists doctors in diagnosing and treating heart and blood vessel problems. They perform tests, prepare patients for tests by cleaning and shaving them, administer anesthesia, and help the doctor with surgery by keeping track of a patient's vital signs (blood pressure and heart rate).

Where does a cardiovascular technologist work?

Cardiovascular technologists may work in hospitals, doctor's offices, cardiac rehabilitation centers, and surgery centers, to name a few.

What type of education is needed?

An associate's degree is needed from an approved program as well as certification from a national organization, such as Cardiovascular Credentialing International.

What is the salary?

A cardiovascular technologist's average salary in Vermont is about $35,000.

How could a cardiovascular technologist advance?

Further training in a specialized area can be pursued, such as electrophysiology (the study of electrical activity in the heart) or invasive cardiology (procedures done inside the body to treat heart problems.
